Elon Musk sheds light on Twitter’s transformation to ‘X’ – Official account now reflects the change

In the past few days, there has been significant attention on Elon Musk’s decision to rebrand the well-known social media platform Twitter as “X.” This unexpected move has sparked a range of opinions across the internet. Regardless of where you stand on the matter, there’s a common question that has likely crossed your mind: Why did Elon Musk decide to rebrand Twitter to X? While there have been various speculations surrounding this decision, we now have a direct answer from Musk himself.

Elon Musk explained that the rebranding of Twitter to X is not a simple case of a company changing its name. He clarified that the move was primarily motivated by two key factors. Firstly, it was to safeguard the principle of freedom of speech on the platform. Secondly, it was to expedite the release of an all-encompassing app called “X.”

According to the billionaire entrepreneur, the name “Twitter” was originally suitable when the platform had a strict 140-character limit for tweets. However, the situation has evolved, and users can now post a wide range of content, including lengthy videos lasting several hours. The transformation to “X” represents a shift to accommodate the platform’s expanding capabilities.

Musk elaborated on the future plans for X, stating that the platform will soon incorporate comprehensive communication features and enable users to manage their entire financial world. This decision, according to Musk, is the driving force behind the name change from Twitter to X, and he humorously bid farewell to the iconic bird logo.

The rebranding of Twitter to X has been met with a mixed response, with many, including industry experts, viewing it as a risky move due to Twitter’s established brand value built over the years. However, true to Musk’s bold and confident style, he remains unfazed by these concerns and confidently tweeted that X will eventually become the most valuable brand globally.

As part of the ongoing rebranding process, the official Twitter account (@twitter) has already transitioned to the new handle @x, with the previous account’s bio stating it is no longer active and providing a link to follow @x for future updates. The ownership of the handle “X” has now been transferred to a new account named “x12345678998765,” though whether any compensation was involved in this move remains undisclosed.

Numerous other official Twitter accounts have undergone renaming to align with the platform’s new branding. For instance, the paid subscription service “Twitter Blue” is now recognized as XBlue. Additionally, several other accounts have been rebranded as well, including XBusiness, XEng (engineering), XSpaces, and XDevelopers. Interestingly, the “TwitterMovies” account has not undergone a name change, but the reasons behind this decision need not be disclosed here.
